Development of a New FOWT Concept

Client:

Topic:

Evaluation of a novel floating wind platform and moorings.

Date:

December 2022

Summary:

A market analysis was first conducted to establish market strengths and gaps. The dimensions of the novel wind platform (SF) were then refined using a quasi-static approach and a genetic algorithm with a multi-objective function to minimize the role of the mooring in the stability, the span, depth, and volume of the platform. The hydrodynamics of the platform were then compared to two state-of-the-art open-source platforms, one spar, and one sumi-submersible. Additional optimizations were tested such as heave plates, pontoons, and the shape of the columns.

Result:

The platform was judged a viable solution to pursue further development.
